a creative home for artists, photographers, and storytellers of every kind
This studio exists because of a woman named Josette - my beloved grandma.
When my grandmother passed away, my dad inherited a gift from her. He chose to share a portion of it with each of his children — with some conditions. It had to mean something, it had to last and it had to be something that, whenever we used it, we'd think of her.
So here we are. A creative hub named for the woman whose legacy made it possible. Every session shot here, every workshop held within these walls, every artist who finds their footing in this space — that's my grandma Jo. Still here. Still giving.
As Kingston's only west-end photography studio, Studio Josette is a light-filled creative space designed to be both functional and beautiful — the kind of environment where the space itself elevates your work.

Every month, Studio Josette will host intimate ateliers and workshops led by artists, photographers, and creatives from Kingston and beyond. These aren't passive lectures — they're hands-on, community-driven sessions designed to teach real skills, spark new ideas, and connect you with other creatives in this city.
We're particularly committed to programming that elevates different cultural groups, and to creating a learning environment where every participant — regardless of experience, background, or identity — feels genuinely welcome.
Upcoming ateliers will be announced here and through the Studio Josette newsletter. Spots will fill quickly — join our list to get first access.

✦ Members of marginalized communities - you are safe and celebrated here
✦ Beginners who don't feel ready yet — you are, and we'll make sure you know it
✦ Anyone who has ever felt like they want a home in Kingston's creative community
Studio Josette was built on the belief that creativity flourishes when everyone has a seat at the table. Every decision — from the programming to the people in the room — is made with that belief at the centre.
I'm Alicia — a Kingston photographer, teacher, and mom of two. I started Alicia Marie Photography in 2024 with a borrowed camera and a red truck, and in two years I've donated over $4,000 to local charities, won Gold at Kingston Community Votes, hosted Moonstruck (a gala for women in business supporting Girls Inc.), and been nominated for New Business of the Year by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce.
Studio Josette is the next chapter — and the most personal one. It's named for my grandmother, built with my father's belief in my work, and designed for the creative community that has supported me every step of the way.
I believe in building things that last, giving back without hesitation, and making space — literally — for the people who deserve it most.
The waitlist is open. Founding members get first access to rental dates, locked-in founding rates, early invitations to our opening ateliers, and a real say in the programming we build together.
